The Number 10
Book 0: The Fundamentals | Chapter 0.3 | 26 June 2020
Every worthwhile spiritual system leans into numerological symbolism, and Janthopoyism is no different. We recognise the number 10 as the holiest of figures, which subsequently relates to the number 2.
Is it too obvious to point out that J is the 10th letter of the alphabet?
As Janthopoyism deals with the duality (2) of the inner and outer universes, we see how 10 illustrates this concept as the first double-digit number in the mathematical sequence.
We can push this further when looking at the computer processor language of binary, where 1 and 0 serve the opposites (2) of yes/no or on/off.
One could argue that 10 represents the root of existence, with the phallic 1 and the yonic 0, the male and female coming together (2) to initiate life's ultimate creation of reproduction.
Finally, 10 + 2 = 12, the number of letters in the name Janthopoyism.
Beyond this, 10 plays an imperative role in all areas of life.
- Many bodies have 10 digits on their hands and feet.
- There are 10 years in one decade and 10 decades in one century and 10 centuries in one millennium (ten tens of 10).
- The Roman numeral for 10 is X, commonly used in algebra to denote an unknown integer. Mysterious! It also indicates multiplication (the birth of life between 2) and "marks the spot".
- 10 is the base of the decimal numeral system.
- 10 is the sum of the first three prime numbers (2 + 3 + 5).
- And 10 is the sum of the first four numbers (1 + 2 + 3 + 4).
Interestingly enough, Pythagoreans, who believed we could understand the Cosmos mathematically, considered 10 the perfect number because it contained
"the whole essential nature of numbers". As a result, Pythagoreans praised the Tetractys triangular figure as a magic symbol, fundamental to their culty worship.
Speaking of religion, the number 10 runs through many other spiritual veins. Some examples include the Ten Commandments, the ten plagues on Egypt, the Ten Martyrs in Jewish liturgy, ten generations between Noah and Abraham, the ten incarnations of Lord Maha Vishnu in Hinduism, Ten Sephirot in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, and the ten gurus in Sikhism. There are plenty more, as the internet will attest.
It may also be worth noting that we officially launched Janthopoyism in 2020, which is 2 multiplied (X) by 10, twice (2).
Stepping off on a final note: various doctrines honour an annual day as their holy anniversary, and Janthopoyism claims one too. Agreeing with the otherwise lacklustre teachings of Anton LaVey, we believe everyone should embrace individuality and celebrate their birthday as the most sacred of dates. Rejoice in yourself!
