Janthopoyism vs the Law of Attraction
Book 4: The Bridge of Offerings | Chapter 4.7 | 30 March 2021
After reading the previous chapter, one may forgivably assume that Janthopoyism is yet another New Thought yawn preaching the Law of Attraction gospel. You wouldn't be wrong, but you wouldn't be quite right either.
The Law of Attraction (LOA) suggests that thoughts/emotions/vibrations manifest into real-life encounters that match those same thoughts/emotions/vibrations, whether negative or positive. The energy you hold attracts identical energy, knocking at your door. It's a philosophy that receives increased attention each year, garnering followers and critics alike. But irrespective of how heavenly or far-fetched this process appears to you, Janthopoyism recognises that it's perhaps not as magical as it initially seems.
We've already covered these grounds in such detail that this instalment teeters on redundancy. The bombardment of external stimuli entering our space is so immense that it would beat our brain to a pulp if everything got in. That's why we train the Gatekeeper of our mind to tune into essential frequencies whilst blocking out the rest. An exhausted mother may sleep as a car crashes outside her window, but the slightest grunt from her newborn will cause her to stir. Your partner may not acknowledge your fresh haircut, but a hairdresser who met you once, will. There needn't be anything supernatural about this. It's basic mental behaviour. You know this to be true because you can instantly identify it in your everyday experiences.
Deepak Chopra said,
"Good luck is opportunity meeting preparedness". If you do not discipline your brain to watch for fortune, then the stuff you desire might zoom past and you won't even register its blur. However, if you dedicate time to envisioning the results of what you want from a positive, present perspective, then you will equip your mind to latch onto the path as soon as your feet are aligned.
You don't have to throw a stone very far to find an athlete, entrepreneur, or entertainment superstar who swears that their successes stemmed in part from visualisation techniques. Within their mind's eye, they witnessed their accomplishments, and in so doing, convinced their brain that it was not only achievable, but that they had already achieved it. Their subconscious searched reality for validation and there it was. What's more, if they'd searched that same reality for signs of failure, they would have found that too. Every possibility is directly in front of you but you'll tend to notice the ones you've taught yourself to notice. Perspective is quite literally everything. If you can train your perspective to bend to your command, you can control the world. More on that to come.
One of the Universe's most baffling puzzles is the line between the mystical and the explainable humdrum. Of course, there is a deeper quantum mechanics level to this hypothesis, which Janthopoyism wholeheartedly subscribes to in terms of plausibility. Physical matter changes its state from waves to particles whether we measure them or not. As previously discussed, it's called the observer effect and it is a proven phenomenon. The consequences of this reality are vast and could indicate that the material world is changing per the viewer. Even if we appear to share rudimentary corresponding wireframes, each separate mind fills in the blanks, packing a personal brand of meat on top. The studies imply that existence reflects our thoughts on a demonstrable plane. Therefore, physical manifestations dictated by our mental vibrations should not be so easily disregarded as pseudoscience.
Feel no obligation to commit to this theory or any theory ever. But please do recognise the following two points.
- There is a definite scientific possibility that we live in an environment where our perceptions shape the conditions around us
- There is a significant advantage to convincing your brain that it may hold such an influence
Once you digest these, you will gradually prioritise thoughts that expel and admit energies of your preference. If you pause daily to enjoy moments where you already have it all, then you will. Build a reality within a reality that takes place where everything takes place—inside your head.
The problem with the Law of Attraction is that it's simple but not easy. It teaches us that we can have anything we want merely by thinking the right way. We won't have to leave our room if we get good enough! And perhaps some masters are that good. But are you? No, even the strongest LOA believers struggle to manifest the things they deeply desire. Sure, they'll receive a message from a long-lost friend they were just daydreaming about, or they'll manage to clear a parking space exactly where they wanted it, but the most meaningful treasures don't arrive as effortlessly. This exertion can be very frustrating and often results in people turning their backs on the practice.
These blockages occur because you've placed too much weight on the outcome. Manifesting a penny or a million pounds means nothing to the infinite Universal Energy. All the money on the planet combined has near-zero celestial value. But the consequences are so monumental to our little stories that we cut the prospect off immediately. We crave certain relationships or material objects or social statuses with such passion that we wedge a distance between ourselves and them. We imagine so many scenarios that might bring us our wishes that our subconscious has no idea which direction to look. We cry out for items, sitting in a deep hole left by their absence and then wonder why our reality only shows us more of this damn hole. Even worse, we know we are doing this. Yet, it is impossible to stop the brain from spinning wildly because that's what the silly thing always does.
So here is where Janthopoyism differentiates itself from the Law of Attraction. We do so with two simplified alterations.
Firstly, we encourage the aim of manifesting
ideas, not physical matter.
Secondly, we italicise the
action into Law of Attr
action, functioning on an action-orientated system of progress.
Instead of squeezing out results with forced visualisations, let go of all resistance by intending to attract an idea. You've had ideas before. You will have ideas again. It's easy to summon one of those. Manifesting an idea is as uncomplicated as allowing it to come.
Forget about how you're going to achieve your dreams. Forget about everything, if you can. Focus on the end goal. Put that energy out in as many creative ways as possible. Then move on with your life. Occasionally revisit the thought to see if anything new has arrived, and soon enough, something will have. The subsequent step will be evident because of the healthy excitement attached. We covered this extensively in Book 3's
Accessing the Universal Mind, so go back there for a refresher.
Next up, we must meet the Universe halfway. You can't win the lotto if you don't play. If the Universe wants to give you a gift, you'd better build the mailbox for delivery. Go outside. Chat with people. Read books. Research those who have conquered this adventure. Create avenues for the external energy to flow, and the idea will come. And when the idea (any idea) comes, pursue it. Pursue every idea that blesses you as a rule. Because ideas breed ideas until the momentum runs away from you, and you'll say,
"My God, I've created a monster".
We know you want things, and you want them now, but Life would be a dull pit of grey excess if it worked like that. The genuine thrill is in the chase. If you're not having a blast running towards your dreams, then stop immediately and recalibrate. You're running the wrong way.
Because it's not about working harder than everyone else and getting what you want in the end. There will never be an end! Another desire will replace each achievement until you die.
Rather, it's about loving what you do more than everyone else and having the time of your life doing so. That's when you've uncovered your meaning! If you're in that place then the hard work will happen without you noticing. What scares others will exhilarate your passion glands. What others grapple with, you will smash through void of hesitation.
And if, for whatever reason, you don't succeed, you would never consider the quest a waste of energy.
The ride was too enjoyable.
The mission gave your life substance.
The final result was secondary.
Because you could never fathom living in any other way.
