Sacred Travel: Ruins of Gedi

#holythrowback to 2021, when I visited the Ruins of Gedi in Malindi, Kenya.
The history of this 11th (or early 12th) century archaeological site is largely a mystery, as no written texts even register its existence. However, thanks to specific structures and markings, we know it was of Muslim heritage, which includes The Great Mosque (see the third and forth photo, but be warned, one of those is a selfie).
The most curious aspect of this tale is that the final chapter is missing. At some point between the 1500s and 1700s, the estimated 2,500 inhabitants simply... disappeared, abandoning their fully functional city, gone gone without a trace. Theories include the intimidating arrival of the Portuguese, diminishing water supplies, and Somalian raids, but historians do not agree on any official explanation.
What’s interesting is that excavations have uncovered artefacts from around the world here, including Chinese vases and Venetian glass, likely exchanged for beads or pottery, proving direct global trade from this community’s coastal position. Their impressive advancements don’t end there, with evidence of running water and flushing toilets too.
Despite the Islamic demographic, locals believe that the spirits of priests called "Old Ones" lurk through these ruins and curse anyone who damages the area.
Final photo of me feeding a giraffe in Nairobi for the lols.
Islam only constitutes around 10.91% of Kenya’s religious devotion, with Christianity smashing the top spot with 85.52% (majority Protestant). Various tribes also practice traditional African religions, such as the people of Kikuyu, Kamba, Maasai, Turkana, Samburu, Pokot, and Kalenjin.

Janthopoyism is a spiritual philosophy meets self-improvement program.
We view the Absolute collection of all Universal Energy to be the highest power. You are part of that power. You are an extension of divinity.
The ultimate purpose of this power is to evolve, and we each have a unique part to play in this progression. The details of your role are relayed to you every moment of your life via emotional notifications.

The tricky bit is that human beings have developed a communication barrier between themselves and this instruction.
This barrier is called "the brain".
But never fear! By utilising some very simple practices, you can open the flow of exchange, granting you access to the ether of infinite ideas, the infallible path of your guided destiny, and the recollection of your holiness.

Which is basically a wanky way of saying that your life is about to get a whole bunch better.

Join the movement before it becomes too mainstream.
