Sacred Travel: Hare Krishna Tree

#holythrowback to 2020, when I visited the Hare Krishna Tree in Tompkins Square Park (Manhattan East Village), New York, USA.
What may appear like an ordinary tree to some is a sacred site for others. For it was right here, in 1966, where Indian guru Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada sat with his people, chanting the Hare Krishna melody for two hours, tripping out in a completely drug-free bliss. Poet Allen Ginsberg was there, and he later wrote that "The ecstasy of chant or mantra has replaced LSD and other drugs for many of the swami’s followers."
They founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness directly afterwards, certifying this old American elm as a birthplace of a genuine religion, now boasting around one million devotees worldwide!
The Hare Krishna movement itself is Hindu based, making the Big Apple a peculiar starting point. New York state is dominated by Christianity (60%), while Hinduism only counts for 1%. I suppose that’s why most New Yorkians walk past this divine spot without any clue what it means.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna! Krishna Krishna! Hare Hare Hare Rama! Hare Rama! Rama Rama! Hare Hare!

Janthopoyism is a spiritual philosophy meets self-improvement program.
We view the Absolute collection of all Universal Energy to be the highest power. You are part of that power. You are an extension of divinity.
The ultimate purpose of this power is to evolve, and we each have a unique part to play in this progression. The details of your role are relayed to you every moment of your life via emotional notifications.

The tricky bit is that human beings have developed a communication barrier between themselves and this instruction.
This barrier is called "the brain".
But never fear! By utilising some very simple practices, you can open the flow of exchange, granting you access to the ether of infinite ideas, the infallible path of your guided destiny, and the recollection of your holiness.

Which is basically a wanky way of saying that your life is about to get a whole bunch better.

Join the movement before it becomes too mainstream.
