Sacred Travel: The Satanic Temple
#holythrowback to earlier 2024 when I visited The Satanic Temple in #Salem, Massachusetts, USA.
Talk about bucket list America; Salem will forever feature high on every occult chaser’s itinerary. It is synonymous with witchiness due to the not-so-fun witch trials of 1692, where the city executed 19 people by hanging for accusations of craft dabblings. See the memorial in photo 6.
It’s fitting that Salem is where The Satanic Temple founded its headquarters in 2013. Here, they use their official religious status as political warfare against Christian privilege, restrictions on abortion, and general social injustice. Ironically, they are doing the actual Lord’s work from my viewpoint.
The infamous Statue of Baphomet is of distinct notice. This statue was created in protest against public displays of the Ten Commandments, stating it has just as much right to be there. These challenges ended up in court, and the Temple won each time. Please note that the original Baphomet has boobs, but they knew they’d cause a legal weakness. I had a blast visiting this establishment but had no idea that Salem itself had capitalised on its tourist pull and had turned itself into a theme park of a town. There’s not a corner that isn’t in some way associated with the darker side of life, and I effortlessly walked for miles thanks to the fuel of giddiness, as the final photos illustrate.
