#holythrowback to 2020 when I visited the Usko Ayar art school in Pucallpa, Peru.
Our tale begins with Pablo Amaringo, a Peruvian man who drank so much ayahuasca that he transformed into a shaman and a traditional healer. I don’t know about any of that, but one undeniable development is that Amaringo also became an impressive painter with a knack for capturing his psychedelic visions.
Pablo’s colourfully spiritual creations could not be ignored for long, and the West took an interest in his work. North Atlantic Books ultimately published a collection of his pieces titled "Ayahuasca Visions: The Religious Iconography of a Peruvian Shaman."
With his reputation growing, Amaringo decided to pay it forward and turned his Pucallpa home into a non-profit art school. Due to the general poverty of this Peruvian Amazon area, his offering was a tremendous opportunity for underprivileged kids who wished to pursue the arts. This story warmed the donors’ hearts, allowing the syllabus to expand into other subjects, such as English. Over 700 students have passed through these walls, many building careers in the creative world.
Sadly, Amaringo died in 2009 at the age of 71. But his legacy lives on via his drug-induced religious ideas and his kind heart that boosted the creativity of others.
Nearly 95% of Peru are Christian, while the rest are "no religion". Only 0.41% fall into the category of “Other”.

Janthopoyism is a spiritual philosophy meets self-improvement program.
We view the Absolute collection of all Universal Energy to be the highest power. You are part of that power. You are an extension of divinity.
The ultimate purpose of this power is to evolve, and we each have a unique part to play in this progression. The details of your role are relayed to you every moment of your life via emotional notifications.
The tricky bit is that human beings have developed a communication barrier between themselves and this instruction.
This barrier is called "the brain".
But never fear! By utilising some very simple practices, you can open the flow of exchange, granting you access to the ether of infinite ideas, the infallible path of your guided destiny, and the recollection of your holiness.
Which is basically a wanky way of saying that your life is about to get a whole bunch better.
Join the movement before it becomes too mainstream.
